Blackpink Contract End Date: Will They Disband After It?

The world has finally fallen in love with the colourful world of K-pop because of Hallyu. Blackpink, one of the best K-pop groups, is signed to the label YG Entertainment. Along with other K-pop artists like BTS, Seventeen, Stray Kidz, Psy, IU, etc., they have ruled the charts all over the world. One thing that all K-pop artists have in common, though, is that they all have contracts with their labels.

The first step for most K-pop artists is to sign a contract with an entertainment agency. As a K-pop trainee, they work hard with them for months or even years before they make their debut. So, Blackpink came out in 2016 after all four of its members were ready. Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé make up the group.

From being a trainee to becoming a member of Blackpink, each member took a different path. In the same way, each of them was a trainee for a different amount of time before signing a contract with YG Entertainment and becoming a member of Blackpink. This was the start of their amazing journey as one of the most popular K-pop groups.

So far, the group has worked well for 6 years, breaking many records and getting a number of daesangs. With several record-breaking singles, Blackpink has taken over not only South Korea’s music scene but also the world’s. And if that wasn’t enough, Lisa and Rosé both had successful solo debuts that earned them awards. So, there’s no question that they’re at the top of their game. So, now that everything has happened, fans are wondering about their contract with YG and what Blackpink will do next.

Blackpink’s current contract

Blackpink’s first album, Square One, came out on August 18, 2016, which was their official start date. This also means that their contract with YG as Blackpink officially started that year. So, at the moment, all of Blackpink’s members have contracts with YG.

Blackpink won the Seoul Music Award for Best New Artist with just their first album. The two singles from the album, especially “Whistle” and “Boombayah,” were huge hits and made them known right away in the K-pop industry. From then on, Blackpink’s music and visuals have been characterised by bright sets, bold lyrics, and creative outfits.

After two years of waiting, Blackpink’s studio album, Born Pink, has taken the world by storm. Before the whole album came out on September 16, 2022, the pre-release singles Pink Venom and Shut Down were already at the top of the charts.

Blackpink’s contract end date

Most contracts in K-pop last for 7 years, after which the members can decide whether or not to renew them. So, the current contract Blackpink has will end in 2023. With a year left on their contract, fans have been waiting with bated breath to hear if they will be re-signed. But as of right now, neither YG nor Blackpink have said anything official about their contracts or told the public about them.

Most of the time, fans don’t find out until after the current length of the contract. So, they have been keeping an eye out for any news about their contract. K-pop artists are also very close to their fans, so fans have been keeping an eye on their Live sessions, Instagram, and other official platforms to see if there are any hints.

Will Blackpink disband?

Blackpink is working hard to get the word out about its new album, Born Pink, in South Korea and other countries. Fans think that Blackpink might be getting ready to go on tour. The member has also done a number of interviews and photo shoots for magazines about the same thing. For instance, they sang their single “Shut It Down” on Jimmy Kimmel Live, MTV, and at a cover shoot for the October issue of Elle. Fans are very happy that after so long, the members are putting out so much content together.

Even though their contract is up in 2023, Blackpink doesn’t plan to break up because they have a lot of plans. Since the group has always been close, no one has said they want to end the contract. All of Blackpink’s members are likely to renew their contracts, since the group wouldn’t be the same without any of them. But the K-pop business is as unpredictable as rain on a sunny day, so fans will have to wait until 2023 to know for sure.
