Ok, the trailer for episode 6 of House of the Dragon has been explained. So, the next episode of House of the Dragons will pick up a long time after the events of episode five, ten years later. Two important characters have also been recast, and I love how the show has moved on from talking about who the real heir is to figuring out who Rhaenyra and Alicent really are. The teaser for episode 6 shows a lot. In this article, we’ll break it all down and talk about what we think will happen based on what we know from the book. Because of this, there will be major spoilers, so if you don’t want anything to be spoiled, I suggest you turn it off right now.
In the fifth episode of “House of the Dragon,” Viscery Targaryen goes to Corlys Velaryon to ask her to marry him. Both sides agreed that Rhaenyra and Laenor’s children would be born as Velaryons, but when they become rulers, they would rule as Targaryens. This is not the word that will be important to remember during Season 1. Because Rhaenyra will have children, but Laenor won’t. And other people will try to take advantage of this chance to get the throne for themselves.
Ten years have passed since the events of episode five. Caraxes, also known as Daemon’s dragon, shows up in the first scene. He and Laena have gone to the Stepstones, which we learn. They have more than one child together. In the books, she was supposed to marry someone from Bravos, but Daemon killed them so that she could marry him instead.
Viscerys passed out at the end of episode 5, but now, ten years later, we find out that he is still alive and well. I knew what happened to him in the book, but I thought they had changed the timeline and killed him off earlier than in the book. Even though there was a time jump, he is still here, though he is very weak.
You may have noticed that in every scene in the trailer, he is sitting down. This is because the sickness that took over his body almost stopped him from moving. Paddy Considine recently made it clear that this is, in fact, a type of leprosy. Anyway, stuff is starting to cover his face, and he looks just like I do after staying up until 3 a.m. to write down the breakdowns of 2100 words.
Harwin and Rhaenyra’s Bastard Kids
Viscerys is upset in this teaser because people keep saying that Rhaenyra’s children are bastards and don’t really belong to Laenor, who she married in the last chapter. Now, to set the scene, the books give a lot more information. They say that after Criston Cole turned Rhaenyra down, she ran away into the night, where she ran into Harwin Strong.
He ended up taking her virginity, and because her marriage to Laenor had a loophole, she began having an affair with him. Criston still loved her even though he turned her down, but this and the wedding were too much for him, and he became bitter and mean. Because of this, he became Alicent’s royal guardian and a strong Greens supporter.
Harwin fell in love with Rhaenyras, and the two of them had several children together. Now, this caused a lot of trouble because she is married to Laenor, but it was clear that the children had nothing to do with him. The Valeryons have long, white hair, which I think might have something to do with their race. Even though some people said the show was over when the Valeryions were shown, I think this gives it a new dimension.
Rhaenyra’s kids are whiter than Jesy Nelson and don’t even have a little mix, so it’s clear that they’re Harwins, which is the big rumour that Viscerys has to shut down this week. Kind of feel bad for the guy, and I’m sure this makes Alicent and her kids angry, since we see a few of them in this new look. All of them knew that the kids were bastards and not real, but because of the promise made to the Valeryons, they are seen as the next in line.
It makes a lot of problems, and I think Harwin might even hit Criston hard at some point. In the books, Criston beat him so badly at one of the wedding tournaments that he broke his collarbone and his elbow. Because of this, people started calling him Harwin Breakbones. I should be called Harwin Breakdowns.
Harwin and Rhaenyra could have been married without all this trouble if his dad had suggested him as a suitor in episode 3. Harwin is known as the strongest man in the seven kingdoms, and he’s going to be a big part of the story going forward.
Eye For An Eye
Alicent still wears green, and it’s clear that she and Rhaenyra are now enemies. In the books, it said that the two characters never got along, but I’m glad they made them friends first so that when they fight, it will be even more dramatic. I think we see Aemond in this teaser, and they mix in some things with Aegon, like the fight they have with Joffrey.
Laenor’s boyfriend was Joffrey Lonmouth, and they even named one of their kids after him. One night, Aemond got out of bed in the middle of the night to try to ride the Dragon Vhagar, but Joffrey woke up and yelled at him. Aemond called him a strong, and before he jumped on Vhagar, he kicked him into some Dragon Poop. This kick looks like it was done earlier in the day by a person I think is named Aegon. Because of this, Lucerys Valeryon cut out Aemond’s eye, and from then on, people called him Aemond one eye.
Alicent also asked for his eye to be taken out, which I think we might see here. It was very much a “eye for an eye” situation, but Viscerys said that wouldn’t happen. In the end, Aemond said that he lost an eye that day but gained a dragon, so it was a fair trade. But the rivalry kept going, and they still didn’t think the children were real heirs. Rhaenyra said that anyone who said something like this should be thought of as a traitor, and we might get a hint at one of the punishments.
In the book, there is a picture of the eye being cut out and a description of what would happen to someone who called them strong. This included cutting the tongue out of the person who said it, and as you can probably guess, no one could keep quiet.
So, this is what happened, which I think is something we could hint at. During this time, the King had it done to two people, and he cut his hand on the throne when he fell. In the story, this is when he got a fever and had to have his fingers cut off. In the show, this happened a long time before, when none of the Strongs were even born.
The Fight For Being The Heir
Now, there were still rumours about this punishment, and I think a lot of them will come true in the next episode. Since the Targaryens have bright blonde hair and the Valeryons have white hair, it will be easy to tell that they aren’t from either bloodline. I think Alicent is so angry about this because she knows it’s not right, and it’s even more frustrating because she and her father gave up a lot to get their kids on the throne.
In either case, this is setting up a big event in the timeline called the Red Spring, in which several of the main characters die and some of the others have to marry and make alliances to keep things strong. Strong, Harwin. They are setting up a lot of things here, but it has nothing to do with him. I’m curious to see how everything turns out, and I hope that the recasting works out, even though I would have liked it better if the two main girls were just made to look older with makeup.
